I'm a recent empire beauty student, actually I start school in 2 weeks.. and I'm just curious... what is your salary? is it really 38,000 like the teachers at school say? what do you like the most about your job,and what do you dislike? THANKS SO MUCH!Any Hairstylist out there, I need advice on going to beauty school?
The truth is your salary is totally up to you. It depends on how hard you work. If your putting forth the effort to build up and keep a clientele then you will succeed. That doesn't mean just showing up to work everyday. Cosmetologists are constantly learning new things. You have to in order to keep up with todays looks. There are always classes and seminars that you have the option to attend. Don't go to beauty school just for the potential money . You really have to want to do this and that will really determine how much you make.Any Hairstylist out there, I need advice on going to beauty school?

Blaire S. gave a great answer. It totally depends how hard you work. You have the potential to make even more than that. As a new graduate, be prepared to work more nights and weekends at first. It may not be ideal for you, but that's how you build your clientele fast. The type of salon you work in is key to your income potential. Don't settle for working at a quickie chain. Not that there's anything wrong with these places, but they tend to do mostly haircuts, and do them very quickly at cheap prices. Working at a higher end salon will give you the opportunity to do more chemical services, which is a better money maker anyway. An upscale salon charges more, which means you make more. Also, continuing education tends to be more important, and because you won't just be doing a haircut every 15 min., you'll never be bored. Good luck.
